All About Us, Cats and Human

This is where you can find contact information and data on Maniac's work plus other links and professional information that all adds up to stuff about us. You can also sign our guestbook please. The cats who own the Maniac would meow appreciatively, if you do. Yes, guestbooks scream amateur, but who cares!

The famous author, novelist, poet, publisher, and all-around great guy. Do you believe that?I am a 25-year US Navy veteran who retired in late 1995. Click here for My USN Page! That is the United States Navy, if you don't know. Many of you asked various questions on what I did while in the US Navy. Where did I go? What conflicts was I involved in? Some wanted my opinions on this and that. I have come across some links that might be of interest as well. Another group of emailers asked what commands did I serve in? Well, I think you get the idea. If you are interested in my Navy experiences, then you'll want to go to this page.

I am an electronics and computer professional experienced in all facets of the industries. I am a published author of novels and poetry collections. Published in 1989 is my first collection of poetry called Pages of Life. Published in 1991 by a New York publishing house, my first novel is called Book One Tears from Ao. Published in 1998 is my second collection of poetry called Visions of Life. The third collection of poetry called Moments of Life was published in 2000. The fourth poetry collection called The Book of Kalian Mysticism was published in 2005. The second novel called Book Two The Mountains of Ao was published in June 2006. The fifth poetry collection called Falling Star is a work in progress. The third novel called Book Three Twins of the Dark Star is now in the outlining stage. I have several poems published in two different hardbound anthologies of North American poets from the years 1989 and 1995. There are many short stories and novellas published in various media. I have many people who help me by proofreading my work offering suggestions and constructive criticisms. That keeps the work fresh and ensures quality.

For a more personal look at L. E. Shaffer, see Personal Background and Hobbies. In the dim past when dinosaurs roamed the earth, I had a wonderful job while going to high school. I was a stock clerk for two years from 1968 to 1970. Stock clerk was fancy for doing any of the odd jobs no one else wanted to do. I mixed pizza and sub sauce. I made pizzas and subs. I stocked coolers with various kinds of beverages. Since I worked at Readmores, I also stocked books, magazines, and occasion cards. The people I worked with were wonderful and memorable. I miss them even today, but that is what memories are for. Of course, then I joined the US Navy and received two years intensive training to become an electronics expert in general electronics,  communications and satellite systems, radars, identification systems, navigation sets, computers, and a series of other electronic systems. I was assigned five different ships through the Viet Nam war, Lebanon, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Haiti. Plus various other hot spots that didn't capture the attention of the press. As the years went by I progressed through more intensive schools and climbed the leadership ladder. I went from E1 to E8. Then I became a commissioned officer. My commission was from President Reagan. I finally retired a seasoned officer and took up full-time writing novels and poetry. I also run several companies involved in selling electronic artwork of all kinds and publishing the artists who create that art. This is where I am today plugging away at the keyboard daily and having loads of fun. I used to work part time for the City of Marathon, but now I am a freelance reporter. At least I am trying to be, but it is fun nonetheless. Recently, I was appointed as a Marathon Planning Commissioner.

Early in 1997 I became more involved online. I became a GeoCities Community Leader. Early in 1998, I became a Senior Co-Liaison for Area51 Corridor. Then when we broke away from GeoCities/Yahoo, I was elected Liaison of Area51 which became something new, read on. I am now Federated Alliance of Community Leaders & Cosmic Volunteers [FACL] Liaison [1999-2002] and FACL Awards Committee Chairman since 1998. These two positions kept me rather busy with email and helping out on the forums and such. I enjoyed it tremendously as long as it didn't take away time from my writing. This long-standing community finally has dissolved.

I am sorry to report that the FACL organization is fractured into smaller groups and no longer what it once was, but life goes on for any online community. I have three graphics that I hate to delete. They once were used in the online community that now is defunct. I show them here:
Old stuffOld stuffOld stuff

I work hard to ensure that I write something every day. My Book One Tears from Ao novel has been rewritten from the original hardbound version. It was serialized two chapters per month on the Official Area51 webzine called The Outer Rim! My serialized novel appeared under the section entitled Mecuric. Also I now (1998) feature my finished novels and poetry collections at NetPublishers and AlphaOmega BookStore & Publisher [original]. These two sites publish and sell anything that can be downloaded from the Internet. Almost any art form can be published this way and for much less cost to the customer. In late 1999 the new, completely redesigned site for franchising AlphaOmega BookStore & Publisher stores was published. As year 2001 progresses, we sign up more new artists with an ever-increasing array of entertaining artwork. In 2005 and 2006 into 2007, my companies continue to provide services and help new artists.

Many of you have asked about the significance of the tree graphic that used to grace our Welcome Page and the twin color tree graphics found on all The Shaffer Journal and The Marathon Journal webzine publications. As I was struggling to put my company together, I found the need to find a graphic representative of my company. I spent entirely too much time trying to figure out what would work and what would not. Finally, I decided on something very simple and direct. Many fans considered my writings fresh and lively. So I happened on the tree graphic. The only one I had at the time was a black and white one you used to see on my Welcome Page. Then I found a color one, which I used on the online versions of the journals. Current journals and the paper copies contain a spruced up black and white tree graphic. Now that mystery is laid to rest.

Now why would a writer, poet, author, novelist, and generally a good troublemaker need a company? Talking with my lawyers about contracts and such one day led to the discussion of either incorporating or forming a company. Well, you know how lawyers can be. He lectured me a good two hours. Properly chastised, I set about trying to figure whether to incorporate or form a simple company. Since I am a fairly simple fellow bordering on being a complete simpleton, I opted on forming a sole proprietorship company to formalize what had been in existence since 1980. So Shaffer Novels/Poetry Company was born in the early days of 1991. We have since expanded to several subsidiary companies under the umbrella company called Shaffer Novels/Poetry Company. Another mystery solved! Are you still awake? Both cats are sound asleep. They were when I first started this paragraph. As a matter of fact, I am sleeping right now!

Our family tree needs work, but we have some data to show. You have the Ancestors web page and the Descendants web page. As I get more information, I will update the family tree.

Lastly, I publish a monthly journal called The Marathon Florida Keys Journal. The journal is published online and rarely hard copy. The journal is just topics that interest me, my cats, and my subscribers. My few hard copy subscribers come from USA Midwest, the eastern seaboard, Florida, and parts of the northwest. I even have subscribers in various exotic places across the world. You will find the latest copy of the journal listed in the Table of Contents. Just press The Marathon Journal at the end of this page. By the way for those interested, the Senior Editor of the journal is none other than Ebony BlackCat. The Assistant Managing Editor is Abraxas (Abby) WhiteCat. Really.

67His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke this prophecy:68Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, for he has visited his people, he has set them free,69and he has established for us a saving power in the House of his servant David,70just as he proclaimed, by the mouth of his holy prophets from ancient times,71that he would save us from our enemies and from the hands of all those who hate us,72and show faithful love to our ancestors, and so keep in mind his holy covenant.73This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham,74that he would grant us, free from fear, to be delivered from the hands of our enemies,75to serve him in holiness and uprightness in his presence, all our days.76And you, little child, you shall be called Prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare a way for him,77to give his people knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins,78because of the faithful love of our God in which the rising Sun has come from on high to visit us,79to give light to those who live in darkness and the shadow dark as death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
